Portland Icons

The challenge in this pair of icons was to distill two Portland landmarks—the White Stag sign and the St. Johns Bridge—into a consistent black-and-white visual style. I focused on a minimalist line-art approach, reducing each structure to its essential forms while maintaining the architecture's recognizable form. The problem centered on balancing simplicity with accuracy, creating icons that feel cohesive as a set yet still capture the character of each landmark.

Portlandia Poster

After creating the icons, I set out to capture Portland through a stylized pen-tool, grain-textured illustration paired with one of the two icons of my choice. As I developed the concept, the design naturally shifted toward a playful Portlandia-inspired tone rather than a traditional travel aesthetic. The challenge was balancing the city’s recognizable identity with a more offbeat, character-driven visual approach that still felt inviting and memorable.
